If you’re a fan of the funk group Earth, Wind & Fire and the rock band Chicago, you’re in luck! The groups announced a joint appearance on the Heart & Soul tour in 2024, hitting the road together in the summer of 2024. They’ll start their trek in St. Louis, Missouri on July 10 and finish up on September 7 in Palm Desert, California, and we couldn’t be more excited!
The Heart & Soul Tour 2024
Chicago shared a teaser for the upcoming tour on Instagram. Their post features a short clip of Earth, Wind & Fire hyping up the crowd and Chicago’s 10-member lineup. The whole video is soundtracked by all-time favorites, such as “You’re the Inspiration” and “September.”
This isn’t the first time the two groups have teamed up. They went on tour together in 2004 and again in the summer of 2015, and even did some shows together in 2016 as well. In this new tour, neither is opening for the other, but rather each group will do a headlining set, showing off their iconic hits.
Reflecting on Previous Hits
Earth, Wind & Fire’s 1978 chart-topping hit “September” is a catchy song that remains beloved by fans generations later. The song has fans hooked on the tune’s funky baseline and cheerful chorus. However, fans who are looking for a meaning behind the date in the song shouldn’t bother. According to late Grammy-winning songwriter Allee Willis, this date has no particular importance. The musicians Maurice and Al MacKay, who worked with Willis, went through all the dates and chose the one that felt best.
“You’re the Inspiration” was created by Chicago’s lead vocalist Peter Cetera. Cetera said the song was inspired by his then-wife. The vocalist wanted the world to know how he felt about her at the time. The lyrics express strong love and the belief that the person being sung to is the inspiration for all positive things in life.
