Celebrities are no strangers to lawsuits, but the lawsuits lately have gotten more strange. See the most recent lawsuit against Madonna, where two fans decided to sue the artist because of a Celebration show that started more than two hours late. Madonna and Live Nation have decided it was time to respond.
Madonna’s Concert Delay and Lawsuit
It all began on December 13, 2023, when Madonna’s concert at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center started a bit after 10:30 p.m., which was two hours later than the officially announced start time.
Two fans, Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden, were upset with the “false advertising, negligent misrepresentation, and unfair and deceptive trade practices.” They were upset that they felt like Madonna didn’t respect fans who had to work the next day or use public transportation to get home.
The Singer’s Response
Madonna and Live Nation released a statement almost a week after the lawsuit was filed. They commented on the situation and ridiculous accusations by saying there was a technical issue during soundcheck before the show.
According to them, this was the reason for the delay and was documented in press reports. They plan to defend the case “vigorously” and do not agree with any of the claims in the lawsuit.
This Wasn’t the First Lawsuit
If you’re getting deja vu, it’s because this isn’t the first time fans have objected to Madonna being late for her shows. Another fan filed a lawsuit in 2019 after the singer’s Madame X concert in Miami was delayed by hours.
The lawsuit was eventually dismissed, but fans must have been very disappointed. Nevertheless, Madonna’s Celebration tour is sold out, and people in the US, Canada, and Europe get to enjoy some of her biggest hits; they just might have to wait a while for her to take the stage!
